Deadly Beauty

The greater blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata) is one of the most deadly of all cephalopods. When provoked, it turn bright yellow, with iridescent blue rings appearing on its skin. Although beatiful to look at, the rings are a serious warning to predators: If the threat esalates, the octopus can eject potent neuromascular venom that can paralyse its victims.
